Every child deserves a real computer for school.

When your company refreshes laptops, those working machines can become a child’s desk at home. Tech4Kidz picks up in Ontario, completes a careful second wipe, and places each laptop with a child who needs one for homework, research, and confidence.

The gap is often a laptop.

Many children share a phone for everything. A keyboard, a screen you can live in, and a quiet place to finish an assignment change what school feels like at home.

58%

In many Canadian homes with children, there are fewer computers than people who need them.

In lower-income homes, online access is often by phone only.

22%

In higher-need Ontario schools, a meaningful share of students still lack a computer at home.

How we care for each laptop

Companies trust us with devices that once held work. Families trust us with tools for learning. We honour both.

Data handling you can stand behind

Even when donor IT has already wiped drives, we complete a second wipe through our IT partner before any laptop is placed.

  • Second wipe on every machine we place
  • Lot recorded for your internal records
  • Certificate available when you need it
  • Clear note back to your team when devices are with kids

What helps a child most

We look for working Ontario laptops that can last a school year: recent Windows 11 machines or Macs of a similar generation, with one charger for each laptop, ready for a second wipe and a new home.

If something is not a good fit for placement, we will say so kindly up front. That keeps energy on the devices that can truly help a child learn.

Questions companies ask about laptop reuse in Ontario

Clear answers for IT, facilities, and CSR teams who want their refresh to help kids.

Where can a company donate used laptops for children in Ontario?

Tech4Kidz is an Ontario laptop reuse program started by Grade 10 student Alex Birch. We pick up working company laptops, complete a second wipe with our IT partner, and place them with children through Simcoe Muskoka Children’s Aid / Family Connexions.

Can a child learn well on a phone alone?

A phone helps with messages and quick lookups. Writing essays, joining class platforms, and staying focused for homework are much easier on a laptop. That is why Tech4Kidz focuses on real computers for kids who do not have one at home.

Do donated company laptops get wiped again?

Yes. We ask donor IT to wipe first when possible, then our IT partner performs a second wipe, records the lot, and can provide a certificate. Security and kindness travel together.

Is Tech4Kidz a registered charity with tax receipts?

Tech4Kidz is a not-for-profit effort dedicated to kids and laptop reuse. We are not a registered charity and do not issue CRA tax receipts. Companies give because the impact is clear and close to home.

How do I donate company laptops to kids in Ontario?

Share your device list with Tech4Kidz (company, city, count, models, and wipe status). We confirm what is a good fit for placement, pick up in Ontario, complete a second wipe with our IT partner, and place working laptops with children through Simcoe Muskoka Children’s Aid / Family Connexions. Start on our How it works page or email info@tech4kidz.ca.

Does Tech4Kidz pick up donated laptops in Ontario?

Yes. Pickup is available in Ontario. Please include one charger for each laptop. If you are outside Ontario, email us and we will share what is possible.

Who receives donated laptops from Tech4Kidz?

Working laptops go to children and families through Simcoe Muskoka Children’s Aid / Family Connexions, so devices reach kids who need a computer for school.

Is Tech4Kidz a laptop recycling program?

No. Tech4Kidz is a laptop reuse program for children. We place working company laptops with kids who need a computer for school. We are not a public recycling depot or an e-waste drop-off.

What is the difference between laptop reuse and laptop recycling?

Reuse means a working laptop gets a second life on a child’s desk. Recycling breaks a device down for materials. Tech4Kidz focuses on reuse: corporate donations of working machines, a careful second wipe, and placement with children in Ontario.
